We are a friendly, welcoming choir of mixed voices, ages and abilities.
There are no auditions – everyone is welcome!
We love singing and perform three times a year.
We’d love to see you either as a new member or at one of our concerts.
Hello and a very warm welcome to our web site.
I have been singing with the choral society for 19 years, enjoying every moment. Singing in a choir is a fantastic uplifting experience, meeting new people who all have the same goal, to share in the thrill of making music together.
Mansfield Choral Society is a non-audition choir and we strive to produce high quality choral singing in a happy and welcoming atmosphere. Our current Artistic Director, Peter Siepmann, is continuing to raise standards whilst still making rehearsals fun.
We will really miss him after Easter 2017, despite our delight in his reasons for needing to stand down. We are looking for an equally inspiring successor, see our advert below . . .
We rehearse every Thursday evening at 7:15pm, during term time, at The Queen Elizabeth Academy in Mansfield. Hope to see you there!
We are looking for a new Musical Director who is an experienced conductor with an infectious enthusiasm for choral repertoire spanning a wide variety of genres.
MCS was formed in 1973, and prides itself on the warmth and friendliness of its’ welcome. There are no auditions, and membership currently numbers over 90 singers of a wide variety of voices, ages and abilities. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings (7.15-9.15pm), and are augmented by occasional Saturday 'study mornings'. An experienced rehearsal pianist and Assistant Director are in post. Concerts are held three times a year: recent performances have included An Evening on Broadway (June 2016), Britten St Nicolas (November 2015), Purcell Dido & Aeneas (July 2015), Handel Messiah (November 2014) and Mozart Requiem (May 2014) in venues that include Southwell Minster and Nottingham's Albert Hall. Collaborations with other local societies are a regular feature in our calendar.
In recent years, we have further improved our technical abilities and performance levels and have a good reputation in the local area, with new members every term and our concerts are well supported. We want to continue to build this reputation so applicants should have experience of directing large choirs, and preferably some experience of orchestral conducting as well. An attractive remuneration package is available.
Interviews will be held on the afternoon of Saturday 19th November, followed by an audition with the choir itself on the evening of Thursday 1st December.
Closing date: Thursday 3rd November 2016.
