A Message from MCS's New Chairman, Stephen Hewlett-Davies

Hello and welcome to the Mansfield Choral Society web site. Mansfield Choral Society will be 40 years old in 2014 and I have been singing with the choral society for the past 15 of those years, enjoying every moment. Singing in a choir is a fantastic uplifting experience, meeting new people who all have the same goal, to share in the thrill of making music together. We meet weekly in Mansfield and perform a very wide repertoire of traditional and modern choral music, and pride ourselves on being inclusive and welcoming. We are a non audition choir numbering over 100 singers of all ages and anyone is welcome, young voices included.

Over the last 10 years the Choral Society has gone from strength to strength under the superb training and leadership of our Musical Director David Wilson. Excellent reviews have been given to the concerts at Southwell Minster, The Albert Hall Nottingham and Kelham Hall as well as locally at the Queen Elizabeth School. A highly respected musician, David Wilson has been part of Nottinghamshire music scene for many years. However, he now wishes to reduce his commitments and spend more time with his family who live in the West Country.

I am very proud to announce that as of the 1st of March 2012 Peter Siepmann has agreed to take over the batten from David and will be Mansfield Choral Society’s new Musical Director. Peter is currently working as Organist & Director of Music at St Peter’s Church in the centre of Nottingham and has done great work with the University of Nottingham Chamber choir and Nottingham Community choir. He will now be adding Mansfield Choral Society to that list and I look forward to working together with him on our future concerts.

If you have not heard Mansfield Choral Society before or you are considering joining a choir, then why not come along to hear one of our concerts. If you like what you hear please tell us or even enquire about joining us for a rehearsal and give us a try, we would love to see you.
