Aims

Mansfield Choral Society aims to produce a high standard of music-making and achieves this through:

  • Weekly rehearsals
  • Use of rehearsal CDs
  • Saturday workshops at least once a term

Its mission is to introduce members and audiences to a wide range of music, from such early works as Handel’s Messiah through choral classics including Poulenc’s Gloria, to exciting 20th Century works such as Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols and the Messe Solennelle by Langlais, full of emotional intensity.

The Society is a member of Making Music whose principle aims are to maintain and advance education by promoting the art, practice and public performance of music throughout the UK.

MCS has a long tradition of involving young people as choir members and soloists. Some sopranos and altos have also been members of the award- winning girls’ choir Cantamus [opens in a new window]. Every year, the winner of the prestigious John Ogden Scholarship Award, for outstanding young performers, is invited to perform at the Choral Society’s Summer concert.

The choir’s parallel objective is to create an atmosphere in which members, old and new, feel included and valued.
